The Principal-School Counselor Relationship

November 30, 2011, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST
Patricia Martin, Assistant Vice President, The College Board, NOSCA
Jeff Hale, Associate Director, The College Board, Advocacy & Policy Center
Dick Flannery, Senior Director Leadership Programs and Services, National Association for Secondary School Principals (NASSP)
Richard Wong, Executive Director, American School Counselor Association (ASCA)

The presenters give a practical overview on a new toolkit developed jointly by National Association for Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and the College Board. Based on research and a survey conducted by the three organizations that highlighted issues and areas for improvement in many principal-counselor teams, the toolkit provides practical assessments and activities to create a successful partnership between school counselors and their principals. The toolkit is divided into sections and tools on working with school-level data, communication, trust and respect, joint planning, leadership, and real-world scenarios. The goal is to help school teams align their goals and complement each other’s work, resulting in a school climate of high expectations and student success in their schools.
